A Labour councillor has slammed supermarket chain Sainsbury's after he was left seriously disappointed by his dinner.

Danny Hackett, Labour councillor for Thamesmead East, bought a ham and mustard sandwich from the Bexleyheath branch on Monday evening but was gutted to find it was only half full.

In a photo posted on Twitter, he complained to the store about its sorry-looking meal, which shows tiny pieces of ham scattered between the slices of bread.

Although he sees the funny side, Mr Hackett told News Shopper he thought he had "hit the jackpot" after eating the first half of his sandwich, which contained plenty of ham.

However, he said he was shocked to move onto the second half of his tasty treat, only to find he had been robbed of a filling.

"I was so hungry," he joked, as he explained he did not have time to buy any more food due to a Labour party meeting he had to attend.

After tweeting Sainsbury's about the issue, Mr Hackett has been told he will be given a refund for his sorry sandwich.

He joked online that he was not 'in the money' after buying the product - a reference to the Sainsbury's boss who was caught on camera singing 'We're in the money' after the merger with Asda was confirmed.

"I just should have gone to M&S," Mr Hackett told News Shopper.
