More criminal records have been dished out in Bromley after the 100th driver was caught exploiting a disability parking badge.

The Blue Badge prosecuting campaign was launched in Bromley in July 2016 – and has since been given an award by The British Parking Association.

Since March - 12 more drivers have been caught and fined a total of £7,922 and handed criminal records.

Executive councillor for public protection and environment, Kate Lyme, said: “It is with great disappointment we have had to prosecute 100 drivers for misusing a Blue Badge.

“Equally disappointing is the majority of cases continue to involve a relative displaying a loved one’s badge when they are not present.

“Blue Badge misuse takes away parking spaces from those who genuinely rely on the scheme to carry out everyday tasks.

“Drivers who break the law and put genuine Blue Badge Holders at real disadvantage should expect to be caught and end up with a criminal record.”

One of the prosecuted drivers had to pay a total of £1,234 for using the Blue Badge of a child under the age of 18.
