An Orpington commuter now has an "even worse nightmare" commute to work after the new train timetables came into effect.

Lisa Atkins, 43, of Petten Grove, said she now has to leave her home earlier, get one extra train, and still arrive to work 15 minutes later than usual.

It comes after the new Southern, Southeastern and Govia Thameslink Railway timetable was introduced on Sunday (May 20).

“It is just ridiculous,” she told News Shopper. “It was a nightmare before but it is even worse now.”

Prior to the major timetable change, Lisa got a bus to Orpington station and a train to Beckenham Junction before another train took her to West Norwood.

The school business manager must now get off at Bromley South from Orpington, before waiting eight minutes for a train to Beckenham Junction.

Lisa said she now has to start work 15 minutes late, before arriving home later in the evening.

Her options now are to pay more to travel to Peckham, endure the extra train or walk 25 additional minutes on her way to work.

She added: “From what I am hearing the Catford line is working positively and there are fast trains from Chislehurst.

“But other than that it is all bad.

"My brother travels from Belvedere to East Dulwich and he is having a nightmare as well.”
