Plans for a discount food supermarket in Erith have been submitted to planning chiefs at Bexley Council.

Lidl plans to demolish a shop in Atlas Trade Park, Fraser Road and build a standalone store with 111 parking spaces.

Atlas Trade Park is currently occupied by four retailers and a car garage, and is 0.1 miles from the Quarry Development which will eventually have around 600 homes built there.

Lidl has submitted a formal planning application to the council, saying its scheme would bring 40 jobs to Erith.

According to planning documents: “The new supermarket will significantly enhance the scale and extent of locally available shopping facilities without detriment to any town centre and to the benefit of the community it will serve.”

A petition with more than 120 signatures supporting the development has been submitted alongside the application.

The closest alternative Lidl is in Bexleyheath Broadway, 2.8 miles away.

The plans are currently being reviewed by officers at Bexley Council.
