Police were called to a café in Penge after "warm water" was thrown during an argument.

The Hardedge Café in Penge High Street was the scene of the trouble on Sunday, May 20, before 9.30am.

A police spokesman said: “There appears to have been an altercation between some customers and an innocent party had warm water thrown on them.

“There is an allegation of affray. It doesn’t look like there was any injuries, but someone was looked over by the London Ambulance Service.”

The police say the thrown liquid was not a “noxious substance” after rumours circulated online that acid was involved.

No arrests have been made.

A wintess spoke to News Shopper claiming acetone was inside the thrown water.

She added: "It actually burnt my friend's mouth and lip and I just got it in my mouth."
