Police are looking for a man after failing to catch him in a chase through Plumstead on Monday evening.
Cars were reportedly spotted near Plumstead Gardens at around 7pm on May 14 and a helicopter flew over the area.
Some people in the area reported seeing police dogs sniffing around the park and a 'car chase' through the roads surrounding it.
Scotland Yard confirmed officers had been attempting to stop a man who had fled from a car while police tried to apprehend him, but pursuits were unsuccessful.
A spokesman from the Met said: "We were called to Brookdene Road, Plumstead, shortly before 7pm yesterday (Monday).
"One male decamped from a vehicle. Officers attempted to trace him and a police helicopter was called in to help.
"He was not traced, and enquiries continue to trace him."
