Pupils at a Greenhithe primary school are being told to stay at home today after a suspected break-in at the building.
Stone St Mary's Primary School has closed its doors after the suspected burglary in the early hours of this morning (Thursday), in which expensive items were stolen.
Jane Rolph, the school's headteacher, confirmed: “Stone St Mary’s Church of England Primary School sadly suffered a break-in during the early hours of this morning (Thursday, May 10).
"Thieves took a number of laptop computers as well as causing damage to the building.
“The school remains closed today but is expected to open as usual tomorrow. We would like to thank parents and carers for their understanding and support today.
“We would ask anyone with any information about the break-in to contact Kent Police on 101.”
A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Kent Police is investigating a burglary which is reported to have taken place at a premises in Hayes Road, Greenhithe, at around 1.35am on Thursday 10 May.
"Officers attended the area and conducted an area search, which was assisted by the National Police Air Service, but at present no arrests have been made
"Enquiries remain ongoing and anyone with information can call 01474 366149 quoting 10-0066.
"Alternatively call Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111."
