A Dartford community has rallied around a friend who suffered life-changing injuries after being knocked off his motorbike.

Donald Morgan was travelling to work on the A2 in Darenth on February 17 this year when he was reportedly hit from behind by a car and dragged for approximately 200 metres up the road.

At the time, a Kent Police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 6.25am on Saturday 17 February to a collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle on the A2 Coastbound at Darenth.

"Officers attended alongside the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

"The motorcyclist has been taken to a hospital in London. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening."

Since the accident, Mr Morgan has been hospitalised and had several operations, including skin grafts, to recover from the injuries he suffered.

To help Mr Morgan get back on his feet, his family set up a crowdfunding page, which has so far raised £1,500 for his cause.

But his family were not the only people willing to led their support to his recovery.

A keen motorcyclist, Mr Morgan is part of a group of bikers called the Heathen Tribe, who wanted to organise a fundraiser to aid Mr Morgan's recovery.

With help from long-time friend of Mr Morgan, also landlady of The Coach House pub, Julie Sears, they raised more than £1,000 to add to Mr Morgan's fund.

The fundraiser, which was held at the Bexleyheath Pub situated just opposite Mr Morgan's home, featured a raffle and other festivities to raise money.

Mr Morgan was even able to attend for a short while, as he was allowed to leave hospital for an hour and a half to celebrate with friends and family.

Ms Sears told News Shopper: "It was very heart warming for him that so many people turned up.

"We would all like to say a big thank you to the retailers of Crayford that supplied the gifts for the raffle and also friends.

"It's nice to know that a community can come together at times like this."
