Three children under 10 were among the victims of a serious car crash which closed a road.

Police were called to the incident in Bromley Road, at the junction with Oldstead Road, at around 7.40pm on Sunday.

Seven people between two cars - a Jaguar and a Volvo - were involved while both the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade rushed to the scene.

The woman and three children - aged between three and nine years old - who travelled in the Volvo have suffered non life-threatening injuries, a Met Police spokesman confirmed.

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We treated five people - three children and two adults.

"We took one woman with leg injuries to a major trauma centre as a priority, and also took the children to hospital."

The other two were not treated for injuries.

Father Martin Thomas, rector of St John's Catford which is only yards from where the crash occurred, said: "There is great local concern at the high number of crashes and near misses that are happening on this strecth of road.

"A meeting was held last year with TfL and local stakeholders but we were unable to pursuade them to take any action. It seems inevitable that a fatality will occur before long here.

"Local residents feel really frustrated that their walk with children to school or to the local shops has become so dangerous."

Father Thomas added that contact has been made with councillors to see if there are ways to improve safety in Bromley Road for cyclists, motorists, and pedestrians.

Bromley Road has reopened since the crash.
