Today marks the first birthday of a boy, King Abraham, who was delivered in the newly redeveloped London Bridge station.

On April 27, 2017, Otaa Abraham went into labour on platform nine just after 4pm and was quickly moved to a first aid room.

Otaa felt King start kicking whilst in a class at South Bank University and decided she would make her way to Queen Elizabeth Hospital immediately.

But King wasn’t willing to wait.

She made it to the platform but quickly needed assistance, the station staff quickly put a call out for any doctors or nurses and a midwife and nurse soon arrived to help deliver baby King.

Denis Kirk, Network Rail’s London Bridge station manager, said: “Mrs Abraham was brilliant and she didn’t panic at all.

You see some incredible things working at a station with over fifty million passengers a year, but that was certainly a day we won’t forget!”

King Abraham was born at 4.36pm just before the ambulance arrived and today Otaa and King were invited back to London Bridge to mark the occasion.

Otaa said: “I’m so grateful to all the staff at London Bridge, who were so professional and helped to bring King into the world.”

King was presented with a birthday cake in the staff office and the station team sang ‘Happy Birthday’.
