A poster spotted in Beckenham, which appears to speak out against transgender people and mixed 'private' spaces, has provoked strong reaction on social media.

It is not known who designed the poster, but it was seen plastered to a wall on Avenue Road in Beckenham on Tuesday (April 24).

The poster reads: "We all know what a woman is. We all came out of one.

"Say no to men in women's private spaces. A man should not be able to enter a woman's space just by declaring himself to be a woman.

"Women & girls need access to single sex changing rooms, toilets, swimming sessions and sports teams. Woman is not a feeling. Woman is not an identity. Woman is a biological fact."

One Facebook commenter said the poster "needed removing".

Another said it was "pretty hateful and offensive" and that "some people should catch up with the times".

One person wrote that although disagreeing with how the poster was written, they "agree with the principle" and "would like a toilet that is woman only".
