Kent Police have issued an appeal for witnesses after a 44 year old man from Dartford died after being hit by a lorry in West Malling.

Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service were called to Ashton Way in West Malling just after 8am on Wednesday (April 25), but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the man was crossing "adjacent to the access road for West Malling railway station" when he was struck by the lorry.

Police have also received reports that the man was struck while using a pedestrian crossing.

A statement from Kent Police confirmed: "Kent Police was called at 8.04am on Wednesday 25 April 2018 following a collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian on the southbound carriageway of the A228 Ashton Way, West Malling.

"Officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene on a pedestrian crossing adjacent to the access road for West Malling railway station.

"The pedestrian, a man in his 40s from the Dartford area, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

"A 67-year-old man from West Malling has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody.

"The southbound carriageway was reopened at 3.21pm."

On Thursday, Police announced the 67 year old man has been released pending further investigation.
