A Plumstead woman got the fright of her life when a giant spider popped out at her in her garden.

Carrie Ann spotted the eight-legged beast in her garden yesterday (April 23) and managed to snap the picture from a safe distance.

Carrie is an animal lover, but even she was frightened when she saw the spider move far quicker than she was expecting.

She said: “What the hell is that? Scared the life out of me when I was in the garden and saw it even it jumps.

“If you have seen it in real life like me just right now you would be s**tting yourself.”

Arachnid experts reckon the spider is a tube web spider, one of the largest spider breeds in Great Britain.

Usually only found along the south east coast, these spiders add to their menace with glowing green fangs if you look at them under the right light.

The cannibalistic spider is known for being one of the breeds that eat their own mother after hatching.

As for the bite, it is one of the more dangerous spider bites you can get in the UK, ranking only slightly below that of a false widow.

Although you will not die, the bite is as painful as a bee sting and the pain can last for a few hours.
