A man has been arrested after armed police were called to a flat in Crayford on Monday evening.

Tweets circulated on Monday afternoon reporting that a man was seen carrying a gun on Iron Mill Lane in Crayford at about 5.40pm.

A Met Police spokesman said: "A man has been arrested for a firearms offence.

"Police were called at 17:40hrs on Monday, 23 April to Claston Close, Crayford. It was reported that a man was in the street with a firearm.

"Officers including armed officers attended the scene.

"A residential premises in Claston Close was entered by police and a 37-year-old man arrested. A suspected firearm was recovered at the scene.

"The man has been taken to a south London police station where he is currently detained."

Detectives from Bexley police are currently investigating the incident.
