Eleven community projects, including theatre trips for children and holiday clubs for young carers, are in the pool for a £100,000 funding pot.

The community chest funding post is awarded by the housing association Phoenix Community Housing in Lewisham and so far have awarded £500,000 to community projects since 2013.

To receive a share of the massive pot of money, a tenant vote will determine which of the 11 applicants will receive their share of the war chest.

Already five smaller grants of up to £2,500 have been awarded and now the decision will be made on May 12 for which of the remaining bids will get their funding windfall.

Phoenix chief executive, Jim Ripley said: "Our residents are at the absolute heart of the Community Chest project, and as a resident-owned and led housing association, I'm very proud that we've invested more than £500,000 on community projects to date, based on our residents' votes.

“This year we received a wide range of applications, all of which share our commitment to building a better future for our community, and I'm looking forward to seeing which projects our tenants choose to fund this year."
