With UK cinema on the rise, could subscription streaming services come along and shake it up?

Netflix could be coming to a town near you in the future as the global streaming site looks into buying cinemas.

Netflix original shows and films are a huge part of our watching culture and the company could be taking it one step further with streaming cinemas.

The idea is in the pipeline but will hit the US first in Los Angeles and New York, streaming Netflix original films and debuts to paying audiences.

Netflix has attracted 125 million subscribers worldwide with their original films and box sets, enticing audiences back again and again.

They have released documentaries such as: Amanda Knox, Joan Didion: The Centre will not Hold, Gaga: Five Foot Two and 13th.

Some Netflix original films include: To the Bone, The Most Hated Woman in America, Okja and Bright.

The streaming company pledged to release 80 Netflix original films this year alone with all the big names in film getting involved.

What does this mean for cinemas though? Is this the beginning of the end? Will Netflix one day take over the world?

Even though this won’t hit the UK for some time, it is still something to think about, and something for the film industry to either worry about or get involved in quickly.

Would you visit a Netflix cinema? Or is the charm of Netflix the fact that we can watch it at home in our PJ’s?
