Thamesmead’s KFC-loving celebrity heron Hannibal has been spotted continuing his quest of nabbing himself some fast food.

Hannibal is a regular visitor to the fast food outlet with residents frequently snapping pics of him safely using the zebra crossing on his way to lunch at Cannon Retail Park.

Hannibal gained his nickname due to his cannibalistic tendencies of eating other fried birds, even though none of those birds are fried heron but who are we to question nicknames.

Leron St Louis snapped the heron as he came up to his car window earlier this month as he was looking for some fast food.

Leron said: “He's been hanging around at the Thamesmead KFC for years. Never brings any mates or his Mrs. He often comes up to your car and stares at you until you feed him.

“I think he does [just love KFC] because he never bothers with McDonald's which is just across the street. I've seen him swallow huge chicken bones.”

Sarah Garrard wrote: “Surprised he ain't had a heart attack with the amount of KFC he eats. I nearly always see him, he even picks through the rubbish people throw out their cars, for a chip or chicken bones.”

Last year people spotted the large grey bird trying to get up to the drive-thru at KFC although reports that he has applied to get a learner’s permit so he too can visit have not been verified.

In 2016 the peckish bird was snapped multiple times gazing longingly into the window of the chicken chain restaurant.
