Dartford residents may be alarmed by a loud bang on April 28, as Littlebrook power station is set for demolition.

The station, which sits next to the Dartford Crossing, has had many different uses over the years, from coal to oil, but stopped operating in March 2015.

Now, the company removing the station has told residents not to be alarmed when it is demolished at 11pm on April 28.

Drivers around the area have also been warned that the QE2 bridge will be closed while demolition is taking place.

A letter sent out to residents said: "Although the explosion and collapse may be heard off site, any noise will be over very quickly.

"Any dust generated will be controlled on site and road sweepers will be available although it’s anticipated that they will not be required."

Dartford residents have also been assured that an exclusion zone will be set up for times during and immediately after the explosion, but this will not affect roads around the area.

Only one section of the site - the 'B' tower - will be demolished in the explosion. Further explosions will take place throughout 2018 and in 2019 and 2020.
