Police and the RSPCA have rescued four "neglected" horses from sites across Cray Meadows in just two days.

In a Facebook post, Cray Meadows police said today (April 19) a horse had been rescued by RSPCA officers and firefighters after it was found collapsed in Foots Cray Meadows.

After being seized under the Animal Welfare Act, the horse will now be nursed back to health.

This comes just a day after police seized three horses "in a poor state of health" that "looked malnourished" from a site outside B&Q adjacent to Powerscroft Road.

Photos taken at the site show the horses' rib cages are visible through their skin and fur.

After being examined by a vet, the horses were seized by police over concern for their welfare.

They are now being treated and will be rehomed when they are considered back to full health.

Police believe the horses were able to enter the site via an "insecure fence" on the land. They confirmed B&Q is in talks with a fencing contractor to fix this problem.

Police have also quashed rumours that the horses seized from the B&Q site yesterday will be put down.

A Facebook post assured people this measure is only taken when the RSPCA considers animals to be injured "beyond medical intervention".

A spokeswoman from the RSPCA said: A spokesperson for the RSPCA said: "The RSPCA working with the police have removed three horses from the Powerscroft Road and a collapsed horse from Foots Cray Meadows, which was rescued by firefighters.

"The RSPCA is currently dealing with a horse crisis in this particular area of London and in the last three weeks has had to remove five horses in very poor conditions, we would ask the public who has any information regarding the horses to contact the RSPCA inspector appeal line on 0300 123 8018."
