The neighbour of a mother who "accidentally drove her car into her own home" believes the crash could have been fatal.

A car smashed into the living room of a home in Otters Way, St Mary Cray at 8am on Wednesday (April 18).

Sarah Lockyer was getting ready for work when she heard a "massive thud" next door and heard glass shatter and her house shake.

She told News Shopper the woman who lives there had tried to reverse her car to let her husband leave for work, but accidentally pressed the accelerator.

The woman had her children aged four and one in the house at the time.

Sarah said: "The two children were in the living room, but they luckily went out to get a biscuit from the kitchen.

"The sofa they were on and the TV propelled into the kitchen after the crash. The husband jumped through the living room window thinking the kids were there."

She added: "It could have been fatal considering where the children were sat."

Neighbours pulled together to rescue the children from the kitchen after rubble blocked the access.

The road was evacuated as a safety precaution after the crash damaged a gas main.

Sarah returned to her home this morning and said her neighbours were told it would take four weeks to fix the damage.

She said her neighbour is "traumatised and very shaken" after the incident.
