Plans for a block of flats on top of a shop in Welling High Street have been submitted to Bexley Council.

Portman Homes plans to build ten flats on a five storey block next door to Tescos, leaving space for a redeveloped shop underneath.

The plans initially included 14 homes, but this has been reduced after concerns were raised about the bulk of the development.

In the courtyard behind the high street there would be room for five parking spaces.

Bexley Council has a housing target of 446 units a year, a figure the Mayor of London has proposed to increase to 1,245 a year.

If this plan gets the go ahead then developers would build a mix of two one bed, seven two bed and a three bedroom flat.

The application is currently being considered by officers.
