A man had a noxious substance thrown in his face in an "assault" in Woolwich.

Police were called yesterday (March 31) at around 5.30pm to reports of an assault on Plumstead Road.

Officers and paramedics attended and found a 37-year-old man suffering from facial injuries.

Witnesses believed the man was the victim of an acid attack as the substance had been thrown in his face.

However London Fire Brigade said they examined the substance and found it was not thought to be corrosive.

The man's injuries were not life threatening or life changing and he did not need to go to hospital.

No arrests have been made and Greenwich police are investigating.
