Children in Darent Valley Hospital over Easter will be cheered up by a sugar rush at the weekend after 100 Easter eggs were donated to the Willow Ward.

Donna Day, play team specialist on the ward, took a trolley down to the Greenhithe branch of Asda on Saturday, March 24, to collect for the children.

Throughout the day, customers passing through racked up the impressive total of donations for children in hospital.

Ms Day told the News Shopper the eggs will be given out in all paediatric departments at the hospital, including the Willow Ward and A&E.

She added that siblings of children who have been admitted will also receive eggs this weekend: "They can't miss out!"

For the sick children who aren't able to eat chocolate, other small gifts will be given to make sure they can enjoy the weekend.

Ms Day said: "It's quite overwhelming what people give. It's a real community spirit."
