A dozen new flats in Plumstead - including a project that will concrete over grassland - are set to be approved by councillors next week.

In the first of two separate plans, developers want to build a three storey block of eight flats behind the Green Man Pub in Plumstead High Street.

Four one bed and four two bedroom flats would be built behind the listed boozer, which will not be changed by developers.

The scheme has not been backed by everybody, with Greenwich Conservation Group claiming the development is: "Over dominant, restless composition and excessive finishes."

The council received 13 objections to the plans, with many noting that the development could have an impact on the pub - but officers have refuted this by saying no work on the boozer has been proposed.

Officers said: "The retention of the pub and function room will ensure that the pub will continue to play an important social role offering residents a meeting place for food, drink, entertainment and functions."

"The proposal will contribute 8 new one and two bed residential properties and will positively contribute to the boroughs target for increasing housing delivery."

Elsewhere in Plumstead, another block of flats is set to be approved in Sladedale Road.

Four two storey buildings - totalling eight flats - has been proposed by developers who want concrete over the empty parcel of grassland.

An earlier application for eight flats was approved in 2013, but has since lapsed - and other projects have been thrown out because of the potential living conditions and the scale of the developments.

Concerns were made by neighbours about parking and congestion, but officers have earmarked this latest project to be approved, subject to conditions.

Officers said: "Overall, the proposal is considered to provide essential housing with satisfactory living standards without negatively impacting on roads, neighbours or the natural environment."

Councillors will debate the applications at a planning meeting next Thursday evening.
