An Eltham girl is walking all across London to raise money for her twin sister who died from cancer when she was only 11 years old.

Emma Powell’s sister Sophie battled with cancer for almost two years, going through all sorts of treatment.

Despite her suffering, Karen Powell, Emma and Sophie’s mum, explained how her daughter wanted to help children who were in a similar position to her.

The Millwall-supporting family are now trying to fulfil Sophie’s dream and build a holiday home for children suffering from cancer.

Karen said: “Despite being really ill herself and dealing with the effects of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Sophie was passionate about helping other sick children.

“She never asked for anything for herself - she just wanted to help others - and raised £3,000 when she was first diagnosed.

Her dream was to buy a holiday home on the Isle of Wight, a place she loved, for use by children battling cancer, and we believe she would have fulfilled all her dreams.”

Sophie was never able to achieve her dream as eventually cancer won the battle and she died in January last year.

However her memory lives on and in her name, her family have already been able to raise £68,000 in one year.

Now they are planning a 54-mile charity walk across various football ground across London to raise money for Sophie’s dream.

The walk, which starts this Friday on March 23, starts at Barnet’s ground and follows a route from Wembley, QPR, Chelsea, Fulham, Brentford and AFC Wimbledon.

The next day a new walk starts at Crystal Palace’s ground and travels from Charlton, West Ham’s Olympic Stadium, Arsenal and finally finishing at The Den for Millwall.

Karen said: “In tribute to Sophie, we'd love to share her story in our efforts to show just how kind and inspirational Sophie was and to help make Sophie's wish come true.”

The donation page has already raised more than £11,000 and if you want to donate, you can at the website virginmoneygiving.com/team/sophiepowell.
