Gritting crews were out in full force over the weekend as the Beast from the East part two hit south east London.

As sub-zero temperatures and icy conditions returned, gritting teams in Bromley were on standby to clear the roads and make conditions safer for drivers.

Cllr William Huntington-Thresher praised the dedication of the teams working to clear the snow.

He said: “Our waste collection, street cleaning and highways teams are again working in trying conditions today and I pay tribute to their determination to keep delivering your services in these low and icy temperatures, with all of the challenges that it brings.

“I am sure our Snow Friends are as hopeful as I am that the snow is now almost behind us this winter but I would like to pay a special thanks to them for what they have done.”

Although the worst of the extreme weather appears to be over, Bromley Council has warned drivers to be increasingly aware of potholes.

Teams are currently working on repairing known damage to roads, but cold and icy conditions are known to cause more wear and tear.

If anyone spots a pothole about the size of a dinner plate or greater and more than one and a half inches deep, they should alert the Council via its website www.bromley.gov.uk/report.
