A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in Belvedere after a 61-year-old man was killed last week.

The victim, identified as Gbolahan Akinlolu Odulate, from Erith, died after a crash on the evening of Tuesday, March 13.

The incident saw a Mercedes pull up on the Horse Roundabout in Belvedere before people got out of the car and left the scene.

A post-mortem examination showed Mr Odulate had died from multiple injuries. The Met Police confirmed he was a pedestrian, rather than a passenger in the Mercedes, as previously thought.

A 38-year-old man was arrested in Erith on Sunday, March 18 and released under investigation pending further enquiries.

The Roads and Transport Policing Command have appealed to anyone who witnessed the accident or may have any other information.

In particular, they are keen to locate the people who fled from the Mercedes and the driver of a dark-coloured BMW, which also failed to stop at the scene.

Detective Sergeant Jo Densham, leading the investigation, said: "We have now made an arrest but we are continuing to appeal for information.

"We know that a number of people in the Mercedes made-off from the scene and we are keen to speak to them.

"If you have any information that could assist the investigation, please get in touch right away."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the witness appeal line on 020 8285 1574 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
