Police investigating the attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl outside a school in Bromley have released an e-fit of the suspect.

Officers received reports of an attempted child abduction near Valley Primary School at about 9.30am on March 5.

The man tried to persuade the girl to get into his car on Beckenham Lane, but the girl ran away.

The suspect has been described as a white man, aged in his early 40s. He is believed to have been wearing a light brown blazer, white shirt, orange tie, grey trousers and black shoes. He was driving a dark-coloured car.

Detective Sergeant Gary Bladon, from Bromley CID, said: "Firstly, I would like to reassure the public that incidents like this are few and far between and do not happen often.

"We now have an e-fit of the suspect and would urge anyone who recognises the man to contact us as soon as possible. He was wearing distinctive clothing which may jog people's memories.

"Likewise if you were in the surrounding area and think you saw this man or a vehicle fitting this description, please contact police on 101. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Valley Primary School head teacher Chris Hollands sent out a letter to parents shortly after the incident, explaining what had happened.

He said in the letter: “The driver has been reported to the police but we encourage all parents to be extra vigilant on their journey to and from school.

“If you see any suspicious activity in the vicinity of the school over the coming days, please do not hesitate to contact us.”

Police said there has been no arrests yet an enquiries continue.
