'Love Woolwich, Don't Litter' lamp post banners have now been hung up across the district in the name of ‘civic pride’.

The council has urged people to share positive thoughts on social media by using the hashtag #WonderfulWoolwich to have their say on what they love about the area.

Banners promoting all the Royal Borough of Greenwich's high streets – including those in Eltham, Charlton, Greenwich and Abbey Wood – are to go up shortly, joining those already hung in Plumstead.

Sadly, not many residents are currently giving #WonderfulWoolwich the shout-out it deserves, although more and more businesses are getting on board.

Paul Mepham, who has owned and run Harry Perry Cycles since 1974, said: "This cycle shop has been in Woolwich since 1908 so we're very dedicated to being in Woolwich town centre.

“We're very keen to do our bit to support Woolwich town centre and this clean-up campaign.”

Other businesses to join the campaign are Snappy Snaps, St James Pharmacy, Exposed, and The Earl of Chatham pub.

Councillor Denise Hyland, said: "I'm delighted that so many businesses are getting on board to show their love for our wonderful borough.

“We want to build upon the huge amount of civic pride people have across Royal Greenwich to encourage everyone to get involved and help us make our streets the cleanest in London.”
