The body of a dead rabbit has been found hanging in a tree in the woodland area adjacent to Hayes Street Farm.
The rabbit, believed to have died a few days earlier, was discovered on Sunday (February 25).
Boudicca Rising, of South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty, told News Shopper the incident is not related to Operation Takahe - the investigation into the so-called Croydon Cat Killer.
She said: "We were called to a report of a rabbit displayed in a tree. When we attended, the animal was indeed tied into the tree. It had been dead a few days.
"We are treating this as a human related incident and have submitted a report to the RSPCA. If anyone comes across the bodies of any further animals in trees please contact the RSPCA.
"This is not related to the animal serial killer investigation but still needs someone to look into it."
A spokeswoman from the RSPCA said: "This sounds very concerning and we would urge anyone with any information to call us on 0300 1234 999."
