A jury has been unable to reach a verdict on a footballer accused of gambling £16,000 using a pensioner's stolen card.
The jury of seven women and five men was discharged after a five-hour deliberation in the case of Blair Turgott, 23, who denies fraud and money laundering charges.
The card used by the former England under-19s player had earlier been stolen from Peter Dixon, 85, by a fraudster posing as a bank employee, Southwark Crown Court heard.
Mr Turgott claimed he was given the card and PIN from a trusted friend, who owed him £16,000.
He said he was "confused" but claimed he was unaware the card was stolen after his friend showed him WhatsApp messages proving he had permission to use the card.
Judge Recorder Louis Weston discharged the jury yesterday (February 21) after the trial.
Prosecutors now have one week to announce whether they will pursue a retrial.
