A pensioner from West Kingsdown was targeted by scammers pretending to be police to steal financial information.
Kent Police has issued a warning following a spate of con artists trying to scam elderly residents by pretending to be from the 'Serious Fraud Office'.
The victim, who is in her 70s, was told on February 20 hundreds of pounds had been stolen after her card was used illegally in shops.
The fraudster became angry at the victim when she refused to part with her details and put the phone down.
Similar cases have been reported on the same day leading to police to offer advice on how to spot a scammer.
Inspector Michael Coltham said: "Unfortunately those who are targeted are often the most vulnerable, such as elderly people or victims with learning difficulties. A police force will never ask a member of the public for their bank details, or money, over the phone.
"If you receive one of these calls end it immediately and wait at least five minutes before using your telephone in order to clear your line from the scammer."
Incidents like this can be reported to 101 or 999 in an emergency, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
