A woman with a brain tumour and epilepsy was left in a "terrible state" after being attacked inside her home when she opened her door up to two men in balaclavas.

Caroline McDonald, 54, said the men stormed in before one of them grabbed her by the throat and started punching and kicking her.

Her husband heard the commotion and tried to intervene but he too was attacked at their home in Almond Road, Bromley, at about 8.20pm on Tuesday (February 13).

Mrs McDonald told News Shopper: "I was sitting in the front room eating my dinner. The blind was up.

"The doorbell went and I opened the door and they came flying in. One grabbed me by the throat and put me against the wall. Maybe they thought I was on my own. He punched me in the head and kicked me."

Mrs McDonald has suffered from brain cancer for four years.

She described how the men in balaclavas attacked her before her husband tried to intervene.

"They were attacking me and my husband in the porch. My nephew came running downstairs and they ran out and up the road where there was a revved up car waiting."

Mrs McDonald said she would no longer be comfortable being in her house on her own.

"I have cancer and epilepsy. I don't think they knew us or they wouldn't have done that. I am full of bruises and full of aches. It has only dawned on me now. I am sick enough as it is."

Detectives in Bromley have appealed for information in finding the two male attackers.

They say no property was stolen and no arrests have been made.

Any witnesses are asked to call police on 101.
