A new state of the art CCTV system is set to be installed at Bexleyheath Broadway Shopping Centre.

The HD cameras will be fitted outside the shopping centre and help provide clear evidence to identify and prosecute criminals.

Support staff at the shopping centre will also have a camera fitted to their uniforms.

Rai Holdstock, centre manager, said: “I am sure visitors and businesses will be thrilled with the news as CCTV plays an important role in helping to prevent crime, anti-social behaviour, prosecute offenders and helps keep people safe.

“The centre is delighted to be working closely with the police and the Business Improvement District on creating a fit for purpose CCTV system, which will benefit the local community.”

CCTV outside the shopping centre in the Broadway is maintained by the council, but monitored by the police following a decision in 2015.

The new system to be installed inside the shopping centre will record footage 24/7.

Mr Holdstock says the new system will also offer better information to police in the town.

He added: “This new technology complements our existing partnership arrangements with the local authorities to work together to enhance the visitor experience in Bexleyheath town centre and ensure people keep coming back.”

Delivery of the cameras is expected later this month.
