A road in Bexley is going to be closed to traffic so children can play out in the street.

Blendon Drive will close on Saturday, March 10, so children can play and neighbours can socialise - without any traffic spoiling the party.

Working with Bexley Council, the neighbours have organised the event which will happen once a month.

The council has also worked with London Play, a small charity that works to get children outside more often - and will be providing balls and bean bags to Blendon Drive to mark the first road closure.

Cllr Peter Craske, cabinet member for community safety, environment and leisure said: “Play streets are a great way for children to be more active, make friends next door and generally feel happier and safer. We’re continuing to work with London Play and hope to see more Play Streets pop up across the borough in the future.

“I’m keeping my fingers crossed for some warmer spring weather for the children and families of Blendon Drive on the day, and hope they enjoy themselves and form new lasting friendships.”

Blendon Drive will close from 1pm to 4pm on March 10.
