A woman has been taken to hospital after a van crashed into a mother and daughter in Swanley. 

A van crashed into a pedestrian, who is in her 80s, at about 9.25am this morning (February 15) in Swanley High Street.

Jenny Shand, 68, from Eltham, told News Shopper she and her mother were on their way to her sister's when they were hit by the van.

Mrs Shand said she put her hands out to stop the van, and her and her mother were both knocked down. 

She said: "I don't know why I put my hands out to stop it, I'm not superwoman - but I wanted to protect my mum."

Mrs Shand's mum, who is 90, is currently in hospital. 

Kent Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene.

An air ambulance was spotted landing in Swanley recreation ground.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said one car, an ambulance and the air ambulance attended the crash which happened near a roundabout. 

He said: "One woman was treated at the scene for leg and hip injuries. 

"She was taken as a priority to a hospital in Orpington. At this stage it is not thought that her injuries will be life threatening. 

"The air ambulance provided assistance at the scene but did not take her to hospital."
