Two officers suffered injures with one of them being slashed in the hand with a knife after trying to search suspects.

One teenager was later arrested at a house in Bromley.

Three officers were driving in Farmfield Road in Downham before spotting two teenagers who fitted the description for an attempted burglary that happened 15 minutes earlier.

An 18-year-old male and 14-year-old male were being detained and searched when they tried to escape.

Police said the older teenager injured a male and female officer during the struggle - slashing the male officer on the hand with a knife.

Temporary Chief Superintendent Robert Revill of the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command, said: "This incident is a reminder of the dangers that police officers face on a daily basis while carrying out their duties protecting Londoners.

"Policing is by its very nature unpredictable - however no officer should be subject to such a violent attack."

A 14-year-old suspect was later located after a search warrant was carried out in Bromley. He was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug and possession with intent to supply a Class B drug.

The 18-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, possession with intent to supply a Class A drug and grievous bodily harm.

Both teenagers remain in custody.

Neither officer required hospital treatment and were tended to at a south London suite.
