Two weeks of work to resurface Gravel Hill in Bexleyheath begins this evening, with road closures set to disrupt traffic.

Beginning at 7pm and running until 2am, the first phase of the work will run from January 29 for four nights.

During that time, the northbound lanes on the Marriott Hotel side of Gravel Hill will be closed between just after the Albion Road junction up to the junction with Broadway.

Traffic is being diverted onto Latham Road and Townley Road, and Albion Road will be closed between the Highland Road roundabout and Gravel Hill on both sides, except for access to the car park and for local residents.

A second stage of work will take place overnight on February 2, 5, 6 and 7, during which the southbound lanes will be closed between just after the Watling Street junction near Gravel Hill Primary School and just after the Albion Road junction.

Traffic from Erith or Crayford will not be able to travel down towards the A2 and will be diverted onto Broadway and into Highland Road, along Albion Road towards Townley Road and Latham Road.

Further work will be carried out after February 8, always at night, with the resurfacing expected to be finished by February 20.

Bexley Council has apologised for the inconvenience caused by the work, which was paid for by money from Transport for London.
