January can feel very doom and gloom, but one kind hearted stranger brightened the day of some Bexley police officers.

Officers from the emergency response policing team were having their breakfast on Saturday at Cafe On The Green in Welling.

Before they had a chance to pay for their brekkie, a member of staff told them that a good Samaritan had picked up their bill already.

The woman left them a note which said: "Thank you for all you do. You don't get thanked enough."

A spokesman for Bexley Police said the lady had left the cafe before the officers were able to thank her.

The police took to Twitter to extend their thanks to the kind hearted stranger.

They said: "From all of us at Bexley Police, thank you."
