London's oldest football club's search to find a new home has been delayed.

Cray Wanderers were due to have their stadium plans heard at Thursday's (January 18) development control committee meeting.

However, because Bromley Council is waiting for a delayed Stage 1 report from the Greater London Authority, the application is expected to be deferred until the next development control committee meeting on March 13.

The club wants to build a home stadium on the site of Flamingo Park in Chislehurst.

Gary Hillman, chairman of Cray Wanderers FC, said: “We are disappointed and frustrated by the delay however we are convinced Bromley Council and the London Mayor will view the further enhanced community and environmental merits of our scheme in March and give our loyal supporters the home they deserve.

"I have written to the Mayor today to state the urgency of the matter and the importance of receiving the delayed Stage 1 report as soon as possible."

A previous Cray Wanderers application to Bromley Council in 2016 passed before Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, refused it upon referral.

The new plans include a reduction in previously developed land, reducing the height of buildings from four storeys to two storeys, an extra community football pitch and more green belt openness.

If granted – the stadium would be comprised of a clubhouse and stands with a floodlit artificial playing pitch.
