A Bromley woman will celebrate a remarkable landmark this weekend as she turns 105-years-old.

Margaret Cole, who lives at a Crown Meadow Court care home, will have her birthday on Saturday, December 23.

Born in Brockley, Margaret went on to become a dinner lady and has three children, seven grand-children and nine great grand-children.

Her daughter, Linda Cole, 70, spoke to News Shopper about her mum.

She said: “We are having a family birthday celebration at the care home on Saturday.

“Mum has been talking about it for ages. She always thinks it is the next day.”

Margaret’s husband, who she married aged 25, died when he was just 58. He had served in the Second World War before dying of type one diabetes.

"It was sad mum had to go so long without her husband," Linda said.

Margaret used to enjoy travelling to Linda and her husband Roy's renovated home in France once or twice a year.

Her last visit was when she was 99 years-old.

Margaret is “really looking forward” to Saturday’s party at the care home.

“The staff are lovely,” her daughter said of her mum's carers. “They are very kind and are good to mum. I am completely happy with how they look after her.”

The family celebrated Margaret's 100th birthday with a stay at the Kings Arms Hotel in Westerham.
