A primary school in Anerley has welcomed children and their families for a free festive celebration.

Stewart Fleming Primary School, part of the Pioneer Academy, provided the Christmas dinner on Thursday, December 14.

CEO of the Pioneer Academy, Lee Mason-Ellis, told News Shopper: "We wanted to make sure everyone got a Christmas dinner. But it has become much more than that.

"We wanted to provide meals to children and their families in a time that can be quite financially challenging for people."

The primary school on Witham Road was the first Christmas event the Pioneer Academy organised.

Food and cake was provided by Nourish Catering.

Mr Mason-Ellis added: "It was really uplifting. Local businesses donated raffle prizes. We also had a Santa Grotto where children had a photo with Santa and each child left with a gift.

"It has been amazing."

One parent who attended said it was a "lovely atmosphere and feeling" and a "great opportunity to relax and chat".

Marks and Spencer, Tesco, the Cooperative and Plan Insurance Brokers all donated to make it a merry evening to remember.
