From the new year prices at many Southeastern car parks are going up.

This comes as it has already been announced that rail fares are going to be increased as well by 3.6 per cent.

Car parks across the south east are going to have the prices inflated, but evening and Sunday car park prices will be frozen at this year's rates.

Southeastern said it is removing the transaction fee which exists on the Indigo parking app as well.

The new prices will come into affect on January 2.

The increase to train fares will be the biggest to hit south east London and north Kent in five years.

Chief executive Paul Plummer noted that the Government controls increases to almost half of fares while the rest are "heavily influenced" by the payments train companies make as part of contracts to run franchises.

He said: "Alongside investment from the public and private sectors, money from fares is underpinning the partnership railway's long-term plan to change and improve."

The Rail Delivery Group said 97p of every pound from fares is used to improve railways.
