STUCK for something to do now the six week-long summer holidays have officially begun? Here are a few suggestions from News Shopper's events section.

  • Those hoping to study art at college can view work inspired by Canary Wharf by Royal Academy of Arts students. The exhibition, at One Canada Square, Canary Wharf, London, runs until August 31.
  • Discover the stories of Diwali at the Museum in Docklands, West India Quay, Greenwich. There is a chance to dress up like a Bollywood star and try all the moves, or learn more about Indian plants and herbs. The exhibition runs until August 31.
  • See what it is like to take part in a military-style drill led by real soldiers at Firepower, The Royal Artillery Museum in Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, between July 23 and July 31. There will be marching, drilling, games, the chance to try on military uniforms, ride in military vehicles and to fire a genuine Second World War gun. For more information call 020 8855 7755.
  • Get sporty at free hockey games for youngsters aged five to 11 years old in Langley Park Sports Centre, South Eden Park Road, Beckenham. Fully qualified hockey coaches will be on hand. Participants should bring appropriate sportswear including shin pads and drinks. The Hockey Festivals will be held between 10am and 1pm this Friday.
