A bus driver has been hailed as a hero after they "stopped" a runaway van that was being chased by police.

Police said they began chasing the suspected stolen vehicle after it failed to stop when flagged down around 12.30pm yesterday (November 11).

Officers chased the driver through Sidcup as he reportedly crashed into a number of parked cars until the chase reached its dramatic conclusion on Blackfen Road.

Tracey Emmerton saw the scene unfold. She said: "Van on the run from police crashing into everything as it passed, finally stopped by bus.

"Well done to this bus driver. So many cars written off and could of killed someone."

A spokesperson from Met Police said: "During the course of the pursuit, the suspect vehicle collided with a number of stationary vehicles.

"A male was detained in the Blackfen Road area after decamping from the vehicle following a road traffic collision.

"There have been no reported injuries."
