A fried chicken shop in Brockley received a zero food hygiene rating after inspectors found mouse droppings there.

Lions Fried Chicken, in Brockley Road, was visited by Lewisham Council food hygiene inspectors who found that “urgent improvement” was necessary.

The inspectors look at how hygienically food is handled, the condition and cleanliness of the premises and how the management ensures food is safe and that standards are maintained.

Each food outlet is given a rating between zero - meaning urgent improvement necessary - and five - meaning very good.

In the report, published on August 8 this year, the inspector noted that they found mice droppings in several areas in the small takeaway.

The inspector said: "I found mice droppings in the following locations: at the front counter, behind the chest freezer and at the drinks area."

In their report, the inspector also noted that the wash hand basin was dry, and stated that washing hands between tasks was “the best way of preventing cross-contamination”.
