The solicitors that represent the victims of the Croydon tram crash have issued a statement one year on from the tragedy.

Richard Geraghty, a serious injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell who has represented victims of the Croydon tram crash said: “One year on from the awful tragedy in Croydon, those affected by the crash will inevitably be reflecting on what happened.

"The impact of the crash has been devastating, and some of the victims are still coming to terms with the psychological impact of the collision, in addition to their physical injuries.

“At Irwin Mitchell we have settled some cases with the relevant arm of Transport for London and others are ongoing as we seek to help them with their recoveries."

The tram crash which happened on November 9, 2016, claimed the lives of seven people and injured more than 50 others.

"We hope that settlement of the litigation will go some way to helping those victims to start the process of putting this terrible event behind them and moving on as best they can," Mr Geraghty said.

"Obviously for some who lost loved ones or suffered life changing injuries this will never be possible.

“There are also still investigations taking place with the final report from the Rail Accident Investigation Branch to be published by the end of the year which we hope will enable lessons to be learned and make recommendations for reducing the risk of further disasters in future. It is important that this happens sooner rather than later.”
