A young woman from Essex has died following a major crash on the Dartford Crossing.

The Queen Elizabeth II Bridge was closed for nearly nine hours on Friday, November 3, after a lorry crashed into a silver Audi A1 being driven by a 21-year-old woman.

A 25-year-old man from Croydon has been released on bail pending further enquiries after he was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward as they investigate what happened.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who saw the lorry, which is white with red and blue writing on the side, and which was towing a drawbar trailer, in the moments before the crash.

The crash happened at about 4.40am, and the bridge was closed throughout the day as emergency services dealt with the scene.

Anyone with information can call Kent Police’s serious collision investigating unit on 01622 798538.
