Anfernee Dijksteel is happy to play anywhere for Charlton.

The versatile Dutchman, 21, has played as a central midfielder and centre-half for the club’s Under-23s, while featuring at right-back for the senior side.

He partnered Jo Cummings at the heart of the defence against Fulham U21s in the Checkatrade Trophy on Wednesday.

When asked what his best position is, Dijksteel said: “My favourite positions are right-back, midfield, centre-half.

“In the beginning with the U23s, I was always playing in centre midfield.

“But now when I’m playing right-back and centre-half, I’m starting to like it as well. I just play where the manager puts me.”

Dijksteel joined Charlton in January 2016 after impressing while playing against the Addicks for the Nike Academy.

His form for Jason Euell’s U23s side was rewarded with a three-and-a-half-year contract in February.

Dijksteel has added three more appearances to his name since making his senior debut against Exeter at the beginning of the season.

Valley boss Karl Robinson has never been afraid to play youngsters – he gave England and Tottenham superstar Dele Alli his debut in men’s football.

And Dijksteel is confident of getting more first-team chances under the Liverpudlian.

He added: “He [Robinson] talks a lot to young players as well. When he sees mistakes and when he sees what we’re doing wrong, he helps us do it better next time.

“He definitely has a lot of confidence in the young players because he plays us – that’s the first thing.

“And then the second thing is he speaks to you before and after the game to make you a better player.

“I want to play as many games as possible. We’ll see how the gaffer thinks I’m doing and if I’m doing well and keep going, I’ll probably get my chance.”
