Travellers have moved onto a Bromley park.

Bromley Council confirmed that travellers were present in Richmal Crompton Fields, off Lower Gravel road. They are believed to have arrived late yesterday.

Their arrival caused a stir on social media:

An anonymous post on Facebook page Orpington Gossip read: “Travellers have illegally broken into Richmal Crompton park and they have dogs there to.

“Be careful whilst dog walking. It has been reported.”

There was some support for the post.

Eileen Quinlan said: “They are there illegally.”

But others criticised the post.

Anita Baker said: “Have they hurt you? Have their dogs hurt anyone? You act like travellers are aliens from another planet.”

Chris Hanson said: “Just you wait till a traveller wins the x factor .... you'll all want a caravan in your garden to look like you know her lol.”

The council is working with police to remove the travellers.

Councillor William Huntington-Thresher, executive councillor for environment, said: “As soon as we become aware of any illegal encampment where the council is responsible for the land, robust action is always taken to end any encampment as quickly as possible.

“We are working with the police in this regard, who have issued a section 61 notice at this site, which requires the travellers to leave.

“We will continue to monitor activities into the future across the borough and other nearby council-owned land in particular and will take further action as needed, with the same robust focus being given.”
